What Is The SmartLipo® Minimally Invasive Body Contouring System?
As the first laser-assisted lipolysis system, SmartLipo® is one of the most widely used and studied minimally invasive fat reduction and body shaping systems. SmartLipo® utilizes a laser to safely and quickly melt stubborn areas of unwanted fat. Unlike traditional liposuction, SmartLipo® liquefies fat so it can easily drain or be absorbed by the body’s own lymphatic system where it’s then flushed naturally from the body. It may also be liposuctioned to aid in fat removal.
SmartLipo® has been shown to involve less pain, swelling and bruising than traditional liposuction. Another significant advantage is that the procedure can be done under local anesthesia or twilight anesthesia in the office.
Who Is A Good Candidate For SmartLipo® Candidate?
During your consultation, Dr. Sheila Bond and her body contouring professionals will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Typically, a good candidate for SmartLipo® has small, disproportionate areas of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. The ideal candidate is in good health and within range of their normal body weight.

How Is The SmartLipo® Procedure Performed and How is It Different than Liposuction?
Under local anesthesia, Dr. Sheila Bond inserts a very small tube (cannula) containing a laser fiber into the area to be treated. The cannula is gently moved back and forth delivering the laser’s energy to the fat cells, causing them to liquefy and drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the skin, resulting in collagen shrinkage and tissue tightening.
By creating one or several small openings in the skin, a suction cannula is then inserted underneath the skin. Using a back and forth motion, the cannula removes the unwanted fat cells. An additional advantage to the SmartLipo® procedure is that the laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising.
Dr. Bond advises patients that SmartLipo® is a minimally invasive procedure. That uses laser heat to liquefy the fat. This procedure is different than traditional liposuction as tumescent fluid is injected into the fat for local anesthesia and to decrease bleeding. What Is The SmartLipo® Recovery Process?
Dr. Bond advises patients that dependent on the area treated, 1 to 2 days rest is recommended following the SmartLipo® procedure. Some light bruising can occur, but many patients are able to return to work or normal activities within a day or two. A compression garment will be worn for 1- 2 weeks for maximal healing and skin re-adhesion.*
What Results Can You Expect From SmartLipo®?
Typically, results are immediately seen with continued improvement to the treated area over the next several months as the liquefied fat cells continue to be resorbed by the body.* Should you gain weight, most fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed. Fat cells that are removed with SmartLipo® will never return.
